Obituary of Sondra Gail Lieberman
Sondra Lieberman passed away peacefully at age 80 in her own home in Minneapolis on May 25, 2024 with her husband and companion of 53 years by her side.
Sondra (Sondy) was born at St Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis on March 22, 1944. She grew up in St Paul graduating from St Paul Central High School in 1962. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in1966.
Sondra did a variety of jobs after college from psychopharmacology research at the U, and waitress at The Mixers, to bookkeeper at Savrin’s bookstore among many others. She finally settled into a position as an employment and training counselor first with the state and then with the city of Minneapolis where she finished her career.
Sondra loved to travel. Her favorite trip was to San Francisco in 1967, The Summer of Love, during which time she attended The Monterey Pop Festival. Later in life she joyfully traveled with John to Saint Lucia, to the Oregon Coast, New Orleans, The Republic of Panama, and New Mexico as well as a number of trips to Florida.
It was a pleasure to spend time with her and she enjoyed nothing more than entertaining her friends. She will be missed.
She is survived by her husband John Walkup. She was preceded in death by her father Sam Lieberman, her mother Sonia, and her sister Marilyn.
