So many wonderful memories of a man - steadfast in character, caring deeply about us, yet holding us to a standard of common sense approach to life and treating others with respect.
His influence on my pursuits of the outdoors impact me to this day - knowing full well - most of his joys came from watching us chase grouse around the woods and pheasants in the fields
Looking back as a kid - I never knew why being in his presence I wanted to please him as much as I did. As an adult, I know now, he’s a man of exceptional character, principled in how he approached life and earning his respect was far more meaningful and important than anything else.
Reflecting on all the great memories I have of Glenn - many stand out! However one in-particular rises to the top of the top.
We were chasing pheasants in the prairies of western Minnesota, Glenn in the drivers seat and me, a wide eyed kid lingering in the back seat and anxious to get a rooster. As was typical for him, “Eagle Eye” Glen caught a glimpse of something off in the distance - a covey of Hungarian partridge. I’m sure my insistence on being able to get to them made Glen smile inside. He looked at me with that million dollar smile - told me they were in season and gave me the nod to “go get’em”!
A short time later, I emerged from the field with a hun in hand, and i couldn’t help but notice a smile on Glenn’s face that suggested I earned a little bit of his respect that day.
Glenn - you are dearly missed and yet your influence on my life has impacted me far more than you could have ever imagined. May God welcome you with open arms into His kingdom - a welcome resident of heaven that’ll bring new joy to all its occupants.
