Although I have not seen Kris for 15 years, she will always be a hero to me, an inspiration, and heart-felt friend. She was a might warrior for God’s kingdom, and that kingdom – and the world – is so much better because of her.
Three endearing memories of her: First, one day she felt God’s call to contact Gary Gaetti, the hard-drinking, often-carousing third baseman for the MN Twins. Her message: “I would like to meet you to tell you about Jesus.” Gaetti’s response? “Sure, when can we meet?” That is the story behind Gary’s conversion and the frequent media reports about Gary’s new-found spiritual focus.
Second, when a Christian musician fell from grace in Tennessee, Kris called his wife to see how she could help her with her three boys. That call resulted in a multi-year blessing to that family as Kris befriended them and provided comfort, a listening ear, visits, housing assistance, and so much more.
Third, decades ago, a young college student – someone who I had discipled for years – disappeared one summer day along with his car. He remained missing for many months despite intense searches. About two years later, I felt a spiritual call to go look for him. Kris had told me that God would give me some type of vision . . . maybe a street sign, maybe a name, maybe a building . . . that would enable me to find Tom. And that is exactly what happened – 600 miles away from Minnesota.
Most likely, nobody reading this has gone through the physical ailments that Kris had throughout her life. However, she kept her eyes Jesus. She lived a rich and fulfilling life.
