Mark Seerup was a better friend to me than I to him.
A snapshot:
In summer 2015 I needed to return a book to him
- Mark loaned books and cd's
So we went together to the Weisman Museum, which I had never visited.
Mark knew more about the artists than I.
- Mark knew more about most topics than I
And then we went to the U Of MN bookstore in Coffman Union.
So Mark could buy more books, to loan, I imagine.
Of course we both forgot about the book in the back seat of my car, so on another day I met him at Patrick's - 66th and Xerxes -which I gather was one of his favorite places to sit, eat, and read. Before or after Patrick's we walked in the Galleria shopping center in Edina. I think Mark walked there daily.
- Mark wrote in 2015: "Being fit gives me more energy and I am more productive with my time, I think."
He didn't just walk a lap or two. I think he may have walked 10 miles a day.
The Galleria had a bookstore, though I think Mark usually walked before it opened.
Mark had an enthusiasm for knowledge, which he gained from cd's, books, people (especially musicians!) and probably from YouTube and anyplace else.
- I think Mark had an encyclopedia in his head
Some of his passions, besides music, or intersecting with music, were Alexander Technique, politics
- Mark was interested in topics like the I94 destruction of the Rondo neighborhood in St Paul way before the events of 2020 "woke" some of us -
and Karen Tuttle Coordination. Karen Tittle was a violist.
- Mark seemed to like violists
He seemed to like me. I liked him. But he was very busy, and then I was busy.
I did not keep in touch with Mark after 2015. I regret that.
He was bright spot in my life and I will never forget him.
