Obituary of Elmer Robert Horn
Elmer Robert Horn entered into eternal life on Aug. 21, 2015, his beloved wife and several family members were at his side.
Elmer "Bob" was born in Wilton, N.D., to Elmer John Horn and Tillie (Breit) Horn on Feb. 16, 1927.
He attended St Paul's Lutheran elementary school and went on to graduate from Fulda High School in 1945. He married Helen Nadine Ackman on Oct. 19, 1947. They operated a family farm outside of Fulda and were blessed with three children.
He was an active member of St Paul's Lutheran Church, participating in worship faithfully, cherished his many years of singing in the choir, and held multiple leadership roles including Sunday School Superintendent and congregational president. His primary focus and highest priority was His Lord and his family, dedicating himself to his role as husband and father.
He also served on the Fulda School Board for several terms through the 1970's, and the Maple Lawn Nursing Home board of directors from 1984-1991. He enjoyed fishing, softball, and dartboard. He retired from farming in 1985, and moved into a new home with Helen in Fulda in 1991. He worked as an insurance crop adjustor for Dornberger/Berry, where he enjoyed looking at crops and talking to farmers, until January of 2001 when he suffered a severe and life changing stroke. He exceeded medical expectations with his diligent hard work in rehabilitation and returned to his home eight months later, where he lived another three years with Helen until her failing health forced the move closer to family in Duluth. Bob lived his life with faith, peace and dignity.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Helen Nadine (Ackman) Horn; three children: Steven Robert Horn (Jeanne) of Duluth, Cynthia Kay Haglin (Dean) of Cloquet, and David Kevin Horn (Sobra); nine grandchildren: Benjamin Horn, Joshua Horn, Rachel Aplikowski, Rebekah Boyd, Juliann Lattner, Keri Conway, Shannon Housey, Alyssa Jewett, and Travis Horn; eight great-grand-children: Kaitlin Lattner, Amber Lattner, Christian Conway, Kyle Conway, Jacob Housey, Samuel Boyd, and Logan Robert Horn; one brother, Ronald Horn of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Carol Lehman of Green Bay, Wis., and many beloved nieces and nephews.
