Obituary of Vernell Bartlett
Bartlett, Vernell "Bart" 94, died peacefully on September 16. His father, an orphan with a tough life, taught him mechanics, how to use tools and fix things. He grew up with his divorced mother and German grandmother. He won a full scholarship in physics to the University of Michigan. Bart was a Navy meteorologist stationed at a Shanghai air base in World War II, and translated Russian communications. After the war, he met his wife-to-be, Helen, running an electron microscope lab. At University of Michigan he earned two masters degrees in engineering on the GI Bill, then moved to Minneapolis and Honeywell for 35+ years. He had many projects there, including developing instrumentation for the NASA Space Program. His mind was bright and attentive until the end. He is survived by his three children: Sue, Paul and Jeff. We celebrate his life at an open house on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm. For info call Jeff, 612-210-6658. Donations can be made to your favorite disabled Veteran's charity.
