Obituary
Obituary of Wendy Lea Meckel
NOVEMBER 8, 1952 ~ SEPTEMBER 18, 2015
My mother once said her aim in life was to be able to nourish her desire to leave a personal legacy in this world. Without complaining my mother showed many of us no matter what was thrown her way in life, to never give up. Her strength, her determination, her belief and values were her strongest attributes and it showed with everything she did. She left us with many memories to share, whether those memories will bring us to tears or to belly rolling laughter, my mother left her legacy.
My mother had many dreams. Her entrepreneur skills to make money were endless. She owned her cleaning company called Zippy Dee Cleaning. She owned her own Hot Dog Cart called Wendy’s Wiener Wagon. She had her own cake business. She crafted items like Christmas baskets and clay figures. My mother had amazing leadership skills and ideas that showed many of us if you dream it, if you vision it, anything is possible.
My mother’s greatest accomplishment, well besides raising her two daughters, was finally being able to receive her four year degree in science and management. That accomplishment took many years to complete but again her determination never faltered. Although my mother dreamed of one day owning her own company she still believed in structure and stability and worked the traditional 9-5 job being a dental hygienist and eventually working in the Health Insurance Industry until her retirement. She truly was an inspiration.
Under her long list of accomplishments she became a published author. Her first book was published in 2002 called Red River Rising and again in 2006 called Reality in Rachel. My mother’s abilities to express her words, through her books and poetry, touched many of us. She always seemed to know exactly what to say. She isn’t here today to write HER story but I pray I can honor her through my words and make her proud.
My mother leaves behind her two daughters Amy Lea Harrod (Robert) and Jennifer Lea Johnson (Mark) and her five grandchildren; Blake Reed, Hailey Harrod, Wayde Harrod, Logan Johnson and Benjamin Johnson.
My mother leaves behind her eight siblings; Peggy LeBlanc (Pat), Patty Houser (Larry), Diane Kobayashi (Tom), Polly Ruhl (Joe), Heidi Johnson (Jeff), Jody Struble (Thomas), Scott Seidenstricker (Lorraine) and Paul Seidenstricker (Candice).
My mother leaves behind her Mother Lois Seidenstricker.
My mother leaves behind many Nieces and Nephews and Great Nieces and Great Nephews even GREAT, GREAT.
My mother leaves behind Old Friends and New Friends.
Although the list of goodbyes is long, we who miss and love her, take comfort knowing that my mother was reunited with loved ones. Her Husband Steven Meckel, her father Robert Stephany, her Step-Father Roy Seidenstricker, and her beloved daughter Joleen Marie Miettinen.
My mother will never be forgotten, always remembered!!
