Obituary of Gertrude June Matel
Gertrude June Matel, passed away September 19, 2015 at the age of 99.
She was born on June 24, 1916 and was the youngest of four children born to Felix and Mary Matel.
Gert was a 1935 graduate of Central HS. She was a career women as a secretary and office administrator who was described as personable, coolly efficient and highly qualified. Gert worked for an aeronautical firm in Minneapolis for a year during World War II. She spent the rest of her life in Duluth where she worked for Maryland Casualty and St. Luke's Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter and John "Jack"; and her sister Florence Peterson.
Gert is survived by her nephew Larry, his wife Trina and their children Christopher and Magan, all of Seattle, and Dustin of Phoenix.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 in St. Josephat's Polish National Catholic Church, 417 N. 3rd St., Duluth. A private family inurnment will be at the Polish Catholic Cemetery.
Gertrude wishes were that all memorials be given to the St. Luke's Hospital Foundation.
