Obituary of Lois Dorothy Hartley
Hartley, Lois (Miller)
Of Minneapolis.
Our beautiful, funny and honest mother died at age 87. Lois Miller was born February 28, 1928 and grew up on a dairy farm in Plato, MN. After moving to Minneapolis, she married her soulmate Dale Hartley in 1950 and together they raised four children. Lois died peacefully in her home with her loving family.
In 2005, Lois was stricken with cancer, Burkitt’s lymphoma; chemotherapy left her confined to a wheelchair for the last ten years of her life. This summer, she was stricken again with cancer, glioblastoma and received hospice at home. She was forever grateful for the excellent care she received from Noel, her loving son and caretaker. Through his love, dedication, humor, and endless patience, Lois lived a full life.
Lois worked in the hospitality industry: 8 years for the Decathlon Athletic Club and 25 years for the Marriott Corp. She enjoyed cooking and her culinary and baking skills will be missed by many, especially her delicious legendary brandy fruitcake. Lois loved spending time with her family and many friends, who remember her as a fun-loving and athletic woman who loved to play bridge, go bowling, and thoroughly enjoyed her golf league.
Lois is preceded in death by Dale, her husband, and Todd, her youngest child. Lois is survived by her children, Paul (Nancy), Noel, Catherine (Peter) Hanson; daughter-in-law Judy Hartley; grandchildren: Peter (Mary Ann, great-grandchildren Pierson and Rose), Alison (James E. Carter IV), Jack, Emily (Troy) Fideldy, Helen, Ashley, Brandon, sister Sylvia Gartland and brothers-in-law, Harold Hartley, Bill Gimble, and many nephews and nieces.
