Obituary of Dorothee May Hilyard

Dorothee May Hilyard, past business owner and resident of Clearwater, died Sept. 26, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia, MN. A private interment was held at Crystal Lake, IA, her hometown. Dorothee was born April 14, 1920 in Britt, IA, to Charles and Ethel Mills Goepel. She attended school, graduating from Crystal Lake, IA High School. She was married to James Weston (Wes) Hilyard at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Iowa Oct. 14, 1940. The couple moved to Clearwater in 1954 where she served as homemaker and helped her husband in running the Clearwater Hardware down on old Main Street, not far from the lumberyard and the post office. At the time, the population of the community was 282. They attended Clearwater Methodist Church. The couple had two children, Sandra Dingwall (Russ), born in 1941, now of Waconia, and Sherry Michel (Steve), born in 1947. Her husband, Wes, preceded her in death, Sept. 8, 1995 in Buffalo. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra and Sherry, grandchildren, Kim Dingwall (Mary Jo) Waconia, and Jessica Michel; grandchildren Amanda Osler (Chad) and Brittney Beiter; and great grandchildren Avery and Alexandra.
