Obituary
Obituary of Larry John Puhl
Larry John Puhl, 75, loving husband, father, brother and grandfather of Duluth passed away Monday, Sept. 28.
Larry was born in Duluth, to Harold and Evelyn Puhl.
Larry graduated from Morgan Park High School. He was quarterback and captain of his football team, played baseball, basketball and was president of his class. He proudly served in the U.S. Army here and in Germany. He returned to Duluth and married the girl next door Yvonne. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and remained the love of each other's lives.
Larry worked at Diamond Tool until it closed and continued to meet with his former coworkers and friends regularly at Randy's in West Duluth for breakfast, gossip and laughter. After Diamond Tool closed he began working at St Mary's Hospital until he retired.
He loved sports and the great outdoors. He was a beloved coach to his daughter's softball team and his son's little league team. His coaching continued with all of his grandchildren- much to their delight! He was an avid supporter of all local high school and college teams and was frequently seen at whatever game he could get to. He was Fan of the Year at Proctor in 1990. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who displayed much patience with his son and nephews. From barely getting the chance to sit in his deer stand before being called to help Jay track a deer to the shenanigans pulled by the young men as they were introduced to deer camp, Larry always had time for them all.
Larry always had a positive attitude and never let his poor health get him down. He never complained no matter what was happening. His laugh was infectious to those around him and his kind-heartedness will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Harold Sr; by his in-laws Laurence and Vi DeMaris and by his sister-in-law Phyllis DeMaris.
He is survived by his wife Yvonne (DeMaris); son Jay (Heidi); daughter Amy (Dan) Vleck; grandchildren Kyra Kreft, Cody Vleck and Jack Puhl; brother and best friend Harold (Donna); sister Peg (Paul) Podemski and many nieces, nephews and friends.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Celebration of Larry's life Friday, Oct. 2, in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, 218-624-5200.
