Obituary of Daniel G Johnson
Daniel G. Johnson, 80, of Duluth passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at Essentia Health Medical Center.
Dan was born on Feb. 3, 1935 to Dan and Mary Johnson in Chisholm, Minn.
While growing up Dan was known as "Sonny" by his friends and relatives. He later graduated from Chisholm High School and Bemidji State University receiving two degrees in Teaching and Social Services.
Shortly after he met the love of his life Bernice (Ridgewell) Johnson. They were married on Sept. 29, 1962. Two children were brought into their marriage; Barbara (Ridgewell) Jensen and Mark Ridgewell.
Dan and Bernice loved to travel. Every Summer they would venture by car West to visit their daughter and grandchildren in Stanwood, Wash. Upon retirement they annually attended the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival in Sedalia, Mo.
Dan truly enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. He loved watching his son and grandsons play baseball.
Dan spent his time playing cards and visiting with his friends.
Dan was a life member of the Elks, Lodge No. 133.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Bernice (Ridgewell) Johnson.
Dan is survived by his son Mark (Linda) Ridgewell; daughter Barbara (Ridgewell) Jensen; four grandchildren David Jensen, Debbie (Jensen) Konsor; Matthew Ridgewell, Jay Ridgewell; five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Cory, Austin, Machaela, Mackenzie; brother Robert (Andrea) Johnson; sister Helen Mae (Johnson) Alexander and extended family.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 3 p.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service of Christian burial Monday Oct. 12, in the First Memorial Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave Duluth. 218-624-5200.
