Rose Winkler

Obituary of Rose Winkler

Rose Winkler passed on to be with her husband, George, early Sunday, Oct 11, 2015, at Spirit Valley Assisted Living. Rose was a "very sweet lady" as anyone who knew her would tell you. Rose was born in St. Paul on Sept. 6, 1923 but moved to Duluth to raise her family. She had a very full 92 years and was bright and funny to the end, she could tell a story like no one else. Her passions were rummage sales and day trips up the shore, which had included Brighton Beach, Stoney Point and the "little house", and finally the Two Harbors Marina. She loved to watch the big ships come in. She also dreamed of dancing and visualized herself doing so while her feet moved. She was lovingly called Second hand Rose as she always was up for a sale. She bought too much, but it was for the kids so she just couldn't resist. Rose loved books! She loved the feel and look of them, although she didn't really read them. She had a whole room set aside as her "library" at her home. She loved her flowers and would hover her fingers over them each morning to say hello. Before passing she said she'd like to go back to the farm she grew up on and be with her farm family. Rose was married over 40 years and widowed for 25. She was looking forward to dancing with our dad again. She is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Anne Capeder, and her second mom and dad Liz and John Capeder. Those who loved and shared her life are her five children: George (Kathy) Winkler, Bob (Kathy) Winkler, Kathy Dockter, Jim Winkler, Suzanne (Gary) Bolt; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers William (Janice) Capeder, John (Barbara) Capeder; sister in-law Betty Capeder; two sisters Margaret Capeder, and Dorothy DeFlorin. She will be missed by her very special friends, Jill Winkler, Barbara Holmes, and Kirk Summers. She would wish to thank all the kind people at Essentia Health and Hospice and the staff at Spirit Valley Assisted Living for making her last days comfortable. Private family services will be held for Rose.
