Obituary of Dorothy Emma Harley
Age 95 years, 9-1/2 months of Woodbury, MN
Formerly Maplewood, MN, and Chippewa Falls, WI
Beloved Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Friend
On October 29, 2015, Dorothy was reborn and reunited in Heaven with soulmate and love of her life Harold, parents Theodore and Olga, brothers Willard and Howard, grandson Jamie, and best friend Violet. Survived by daughter Carol of Minnesota, son James (Joann), grandson Wayne (Melissa), great-grandchildren Hannah, Jager, and Piper, all of Texas. Also other family and extraordinary friends. Born on January 11, 1920, in Milan, Wisconsin, into a farm life akin to “Little House on the Prairie”, Dorothy cooked for hired hands and nurtured younger brothers while her parents worked in the fields. She was a superb mother and friend, homemaker, seamstress, gardener and cook, serving as an assistant chef during her early years. Friends called her “Dottie”. She loved her family beyond measure and valued true friendships. Plagued by health issues and chronic pain most of her life, along with vision loss, now Dorothy is free of all mortal pain and sorrow and is fully restored in body and spirit. She was a genuine trooper. Even though Dorothy inherited longevity, there was not enough time to embrace her sufficiently, to articulate how much she meant to us, to say how much we’ll miss her. Yet, dear Mom, we know you are watching over us in peace and in perfect health, walking tall in eternity with God. We will cherish your precious memory until we meet again. Special thanks to the Woodbury Villa and the new friends Dorothy met there; also to Woodwinds Hospital and ER responders who fought to keep her with us. But God won the battle when he said, “Well done, good and faithful servant, it’s harvest time” and winged His new angel off to Heaven. Interment in spring 2016 at Fort Snelling.
“Live now, believe me, wait not till tomorrow; gather the roses of life today”.
