Obituary of Mabel C. Peterson
Peterson, Mabel C. Age 104 of Minneapolis passed away peacefully on November 5, 2015. Mabel was born to Olof and Oleanna Olson at home in Langdon, ND, during a blizzard on December 8, 1910. She grew up in a loving Norwegian family with five brothers and three sisters. Mabel became a Registered Nurse after attending nursing school at Eitel Hospital. She met her future husband Clifford (Tip) Peterson while buying a car at his father's Ford dealership in North Branch, MN, but first he had to teach her to drive. In Mabel's middle age, she returned to Eitel Hospital as an OB nurse where she delivered an occasional baby. Mabel was a devoted mother, grandma and great-grandma. She was a rose gardener, great cook and expert pie baker. Mabel enjoyed her friends in P.E.O. and was a long-time member of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church where she volunteered weekly at the Steeple People Thrift Store for over 30 years until age 102. Mabel will be deeply missed by her children Ann Andersen (Bob) and Art Peterson (Kathy Quick); grandsons Jon Andersen (Lara), Matt Andersen (Chamois) and Ben Peterson; great-grandchildren Marie, Owen and Henry; sister Lyla Herrud, brother Murray Olsen and sister-in-law Doris Olson; and many nieces and nephews. Our family thanks Dr. Jennifer Olson and the wonderful staff from Methodist Hospital Hospice for their compassionate care. A family gathering will take place at Fort Snelling to celebrate our dear Mabel. Donations may be made to Steeple People Thrift Store, 2004 Lyndale Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55405. MABEL'S TIPS TO A LONG LIFE: Greet each day with a smile. End the day with gratitude. Enjoy the beauty of nature. Give unconditional love to all. Volunteer, and drink strong coffee!
