Obituary of Betty J. Johnson
Betty J. Johnson, age 91, of Edina, passed away suddenly on November 30, 2015. Preceded in death by beloved husband of 67 years, Wesley R. Johnson, and grandson Sean Melloy. Survived by daughters Marylee Sobel (Larry), Kathleen, and Diane Melloy (Mike); sister Joanne Popehn (Arthur J.); grandchildren Shannon Melloy (Khosro Farhangkhoyi), Tammara Melloy, Andrea Nahurski (Rob) and Peter Sobel; great-grandchildren Kia and Kayla Farhang; Madeleine, Albert and Cullen Melloy; Natalie and Alec Nahurski; and Jackson Sobel. Betty graduated from Roosevelt High in south Minneapolis, where she met Wes and formed many lifelong friendships. Betty and Wes married in wartime, and while Wes served in the Navy in the Pacific theatre, Betty worked at home in the defense industry. After raising her family, Betty worked as a faculty secretary at Normandale College for 16 years. A most nurturing, creative, and fun-loving mother, Betty made everything special. She was an accomplished cook and baker, seamstress and quilter, and a lover of music, art and classic Hollywood. Good friends and conversation were important parts of her life. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, Dec. 4, 11:00am in the lower chapel of St. Thomas the Apostle, 2914 W. 44th St., Mpls.
