Obituary of Wallace Axel Streed
Wallace Axel "Bud" Streed, 93, passed away on Dec. 9, 2015 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth
He was born on Oct. 25, 1922 to Axel and Mary Streed in Proctor, Minn.
Bud graduated from Proctor High School in 1940. He married Marjorie Jean Oren on Nov. 27, 1943 in Denver, Colo. They just celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
He was inducted into the Army in June, 1943. He attended the Colorado School of Mines before being sent to the infantry in 1944. Bud was in the European Theater of Operations in Germany and France where he spent 180 days on the front line. He was discharged on March 12, 1946. For that service, he received the combat infantry badge and the bronze star.
Bud was a meat cutter, owned and operated Eklund's Super Valu in Proctor from 1955 to 1969. He was a New York Life insurance agent from 1970 to 1999.
Bud was commander of the Proctor American Legion and Mayor of Proctor for two terms. He was instrumental in the placement of Engine 225 on the Proctor hill in 1963. He belonged to the Proctor American Legion, Proctor Moose Lodge, Masonic Euclid Lodge No. 198, AF & AM of Minnesota. He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Proctor.
Bud enjoyed fishing, hunting and time spent with family at their home on Island Lake near Moose Lake, Minn. Bud and Marge have spent the last few years at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Jul Eklund; brother Wesley; sisters Violet Edman, Janice Caywood, and June Weiler; brothers-in-law Oliver Oren and Roger Oren; sisters-in-law Dorothy Lackie and Barbara Lindgren and sons-in-law Dr. Robert Schulz and Harley Prihoda.
Bud is survived by his loving wife Marjorie; four daughters: Patricia (Tom) Dunaisky, Susan (Jim) Gulbranson, Wendy (Bill) Wennberg and Linda Prihoda. He is also survived by grandchildren Wendy Kenyon-Young (John Young), Jeffrey Kenyon (Shana Grzybowski), Rodney Kenyon, Chad (Brenda) Wennberg, Jason (Sonya) Wennberg, Kelsey Prihoda (Ryan Satter), Ashley Prihoda (Jeff Koenen) and Jessica Prihoda (Jake Rowe). Bud is also survived by great-grandchildren: Gabrielle Isa Hagstrom, Jared James Hagstrom, Lily Mary Kenyon-Myers, Spencer James Kenyon, Ely Jack Kenyon, Reece Michael James Kenyon, Jack Timothy Jeffrey Kenyon, Violet Mariah Wennberg, Nelson Owen Wennberg, Annika Oren Wennberg, Dylan Axel Wennberg, Jaysa Lynn Wennberg, Ryker William Wennberg and Ryley Brule Prihoda Satter. He is also survived by his sister Donna (Gerald) Waldholm; sister-in-law Evelyn Oren; nephew Dr. Wesley Streed and many other nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 12 Noon Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 701 3rd Avenue, Proctor, Minn., until the 1 p.m. service in the church. Reverend Peter Kowitz, officiating.
Interment at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
