Obituary of Audrey E. Williams
Audrey E. Williams, age 91, of Hoyt Lakes, MN., died peacefully on December 12, 2015 while in the loving care of her family. Audrey was born in Johnstown, PA on May 3rd 1924, to Charles and Evangeline George. After graduating from Southmont High School in 1942, she attended Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, PA. She received her elementary teaching degree in 1946, teaching elementary classes in the Johnstown and Pittsburgh PA school systems for the next 4 years. Audrey and Telford Williams were married on August 9,1947, after his discharge from the Navy. They lived in Pittsburgh, Johnstown and Clearfield PA until 1956 when they moved to the North Shore of Lake Superior, and then in 1959, settled in Hoyt Lakes, MN.
In 1966, Audrey began classes from Bemidji State University to renew her teaching license, then worked as a substitute teacher in the Aurora - HL school system. She received her early childhood teaching certification from Bemidji, and began work as a Head Start teacher for the Arrowhead O.E.A, retiring in 1986. Audrey’s most memorable and rewarding times of her life were while sharing in the lives and love of her 5 children, 9 grand-children, and 12 great-grandchildren, and enjoying the challenge and pleasure of teaching children.
She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes, serving in varying capacities, and grateful for the church fellowship. Audrey embraced the Bible, sustaining her spiritual life. Audrey loved flowers, gardening, and books, and spent much of her time growing lilies at their lake cabin. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Shirley, and a brother, Charles, and a stepsister, Dorothy Hoty. Survivors include Telford, her husband of 68 yrs, daughters, Ann (Dean) Cummings, Shoreview, MN., Sara (Darryl) Sturgis, Chaska, MN, Laurie (Joe) Eichelberger, Maple Plain, MN, and sons Alan (Cindy) of Lino Lakes, MN, Charles New York, NY,step brother Tom (Dorothy) Armesy, Maple Park, IL, and her grand-children and great-grandchildren.
