Obituary of Robert Arnold Olson
Robert Arnold Olson, 90, passed away Jan. 2, 2016 in St Lukes Hospital, Duluth.
He was born Oct. 24, 1925 in Gary New Duluth, the son of Arnold and Selma Olson.
Bob served in the Merchant Marines (Coast Guard) during World War II. He was married to the love of his life, Virginia Carlson on Sept. 25, 1950. An avid follower of all sports, especially baseball, football, and golf - himself a promising baseball player before World War II, Bob shared his enthusiasm as a little league coach. After the war, Bob started his career at the Coolerator Plant in West Duluth, then the service dept at Glass Block Dept Store. He pursued his longest career, by purchasing with two friends, Johnson Appliance & TV in the West End. Bob's unspoken commitment and honest reputation was known in the community. Bob evenutually purchased the other shares of the business - years later sold the sales side and both relocated by the Miller Trunk Mall. Upon his retirement, he passed on his service business to his son Jeff. Bob and Virginia were able to spend his retirement always together. We will miss his great smile, patience, wittiness, memories, and most importantly his conversation. A true gentleman, he was the kindest and most positive person you'd meet.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Glynn.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Olson; sons, Jeff (Linda) Olson, of Duluth and Steve (Bonni) Olson of Broomfield, Colo.; grandson Matthew Olson; brother-in-law Bernie Glynn of Illinois; special nieces and nephews Pam, Diana, Pat, Joan, Paula, Jim, Lana, other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
