Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Dugas
Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Dugas, 87, of Little Marais, passed away peacefully at home after a 26 year battle with cancer on Jan. 16, 2016.
Betty was born in Darling Township, Morrison County Minn., to George and Evelyn Wippler on April 13, 1928.
She was very proud to have been raised on a farm with 12 brothers and sisters. Betty loved life and was always ready to lend a hand for any occasion. She married Edmund Dugas in 1948. They moved to the Silver Bay area in 1952 where they started Eddie's Repair Auto Body and raised eight kids. In 1979 they went to Alaska in search of gold until they retired in 1986 to travel and relax.
She was a charter member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Betty was always ready for company. She loved to cook (the more the merrier), play cards, dance, fish for the big one, hunt, garden, go berry picking, canning and flowers of all kinds. She also loved to sew quilts for the needy and made rugs for many floors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edmund; son Kenneth; brothers Jim, Jack, Albert, Frank, Louis and Pete; sisters, Vern, Helen and Dorothy.
Betty is survived by her children, George (Colleen), Robert (Verona), Paul, Mark (Jeanne), Mary (Jerry), Lyle (Sandy) and Jeanette; sisters, Margaret, Louise; brother Tom as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
MEMORIAL MASS: 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Silver Bay with a lunch to follow. Burial will be held at a later date. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
