Obituary of Edith Marie Little

Edith Marie Little, 84, ended her journey on Earth peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 at Solvay Hospice House and is now free of the pain she endured for years due to her many health complications. Edith was born in Duluth on Oct. 25, 1931 to Clarence and Gertrude Young. Edith was a true Duluthian growing up in Morgan Park and graduating from Duluth Cathedral. She attended UMD with the goal of becoming a teacher. Prior to graduation she met and married her husband James. After having five children she was able to return to UMD to complete her teaching degree. Edith taught with the St. Louis county schools and within the Duluth School system until her retirement in 1992. She was beloved by her many students and co-workers. One of the many highlights of her career was being nominated for Minnesota Teacher of the Year. She enjoyed traveling, lunch with friends, watching westerns, but mostly spending time with family. She was very involved in her community previously serving as a Cub Scout Den Leader, PTA president, DWRC president, Animal Allies board member, and a member of the Red Hat Society. Edith was kind to everyone she met and will always be remembered for her cheerfulness, intelligence, generosity, and her radiant smile. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, and her sister, Evelyn Koecher of Duquette, Minn. Edith was so proud of each family member that she requested each be recognized individually for they were her greatest joy. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Michael Little, Claudia Adams, Patrick Little, Cheryl (Don) Boso, and Debbie Wiesen; 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Tricia (Cory) Kujawa, Patrick Little, Bradley Little, Nevada (Theresa) Torrance, Jim Torrance, Sarah Boso, Matt Boso, Andy Boso, Kelly (Justin) MacDougall, Lisa Wiesen, Erick Wiesen; 16 great-grandchildren: Kyler Kujawa, Carissa Kujawa, Cory Van Reese, Taylor Kristine Torrance, Presley Torrance, Taylor Kay Torrance, Ella Torrance, Grace Torrance, Ashtyn Torrance, Haidyn Torrance, Ava Haugen, Estelle Boso, Lillian Boso, Madison Hultman, Brooklyn MacDougall, and Ryland MacDougall. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care and comfort that Edith received in a dignified manner from the entire staff of the Solvay House. We extend a special thank you to caregiver Jayme, who was with Edith, showing care and compassion, as she started her new journey.
