Obituary of Robert Erick Benson

BENSON, Robert E., age 94, of Maple Grove, formerly of North Mpls., passed away at home on January 20, 2016. Retired longtime employee of Mpls Public Schools. WWII Veteran of U.S. Navy. Lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church (River of Life). After retirement, he spent many hours committing himself to the maintenance and care of the church. Robert also enjoyed delivering Meals-On-Wheels for many years. His witty and dry sense of humor will be missed by those who loved him best. Preceded in death by the love of his life, Shirley; sisters, Lillian and Eleanor; son in-law, Al Simonett. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Denise Simonett; sister, Dorothy Jensen; brother, Kenneth Benson (Lorraine); brother in-law, George Hunter (Mary); several nieces, nephews; and good friends. Memorial Service 10am Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016 at Cremation Society of MN, 7835 Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Park (763-560-3100) with interment to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Avenue S., Minneapolis (612-726-1127) for 1130am Committal Service with military honors.
