Obituary of James Anthony Smith
James Anthony Smith peacefully passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.
James was born Nov. 7, 1951, in Caledonia, Minn. He was raised there and participated in various sports in high school, and was also a part of a traveling rock and roll band. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the U of MN. He worked for Barr Engineering and U.S. West before starting his own business in computer consulting. He was always interested in new ventures. Jim, “Smitty” as his friends and colleagues knew him, was an ardent and excellent amateur chef and jazz piano player. He enjoyed boating with his family across Minnesota, and was an avid downhill skier throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Smith and Julitta Smith.
He is survived by his children, Benjamin and Bridgette; siblings, Carol van Minsel, Janet Berg and John Smith; and many beloved family and friends.
Life celebration will be from 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, with service at 1 p.m., at Chart House Restaurant, 11287 Klamath Trail, Lakeville, Minn., 55044.
