Obituary of Daniel Robert Carlson
Daniel "Danny" Robert Carlson, 69, passed away peacefully in St. Luke's Hospice on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Danny was born on Sept. 27, 1946 in Duluth to Robert and Theresa (Baker) Carlson. Growing up, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, ski jumping, and playing sports. He was a 1964 graduate of Duluth Central High School. After graduation, he went on to honorably serve in the United States Army with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam, where he earned four Bronze Service Stars, among other commendations.
After serving in the Army he graduated with a business degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He was a camera man at KDAL for many years. He then became the marketing director at St. Louis County Federal Savings and Loan before co-founding Carlson & Kirwan Advertising in 1987. Later in life, he worked at CHOICE, Unlimited where he loved being a job coach.
He married the love of his life, Lynette Balmer, on July 1, 1967, and they shared almost 49 wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with their family and many friends.
Dan was a loving husband and father, an avid outdoorsman, a devoted grandfather, and a true friend. His sense of humor, genuine personality and smile will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Theresa Carlson.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Lynette; two daughters, Theresa (Jeremy) Caine and Susan (Bob) Terry; grandchildren Hannah, Sephrya, Casey, and Billy; sisters Judy (John) Mehle and Barbara Carlson; and many loving family members and friends.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the AAD Shrine Temple Hall, 5152 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown.
Danny was passionate about supporting the Boys and Girls Club of the Northland, and the family would ask that donations be made to this group in lieu of flowers.
