Obituary of Ernest Dickinson

Age 90. Ernie was born in Lockport, IL growing up in Lockport and North Minneapolis. He was part of “The Greatest Generation” a WWII Vet and Purple Heart recipient. He served on the USS Saratoga CV-3 from 1943 to 1946 as an Aviation Ordnance man. He was severely injured in a Kamikaze attack on February 21, 1945 for which he received The Purple Heart. He worked for Northland Milk Company and Clover Leaf Creamery for 38 years. He was a member and officer of Teamsters Local 471. After he retired from the milk truck he worked for LeVahn Bros. Hardware store for many years. He played fast pitch softball as a pitcher and a catcher until he was in his forties. His love of sports, especially baseball never ended. He hunted, fished and owned German Short Haired Pointers. He was preceded in death by parents Ernest Dickinson, Sr. and Louise Sandiford Dickinson; infant sister Jean Alice; sister and brother-in-law Pearl and Richard Rodeghero and brother and sister-in-law Tom and Donna Dickinson. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Skip and Carol Ann Dickinson; daughter and son-in-law Diana and Mike Lynch; grandchildren Sarah Dickinson, Shannon (Brian) Johnson, Meghan (Dave) Heldman, Kate (Lonny) Gross; great- grandchildren Rylin, Callum and Linnea Dickinson, Grayson and Stella Heldman, Olivia and Elliana Gross; sister and brother-in-law Donna and Bill Rodeghero and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, visitation 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 8 at the Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina 952-924-4100 followed by an interment at Ft. Snelling. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to The Alzheimer’s Society; The American Diabetes Association or donor’s choice.
