Obituary of Joan M. Munzner
Age 81, of Minneapolis, passed away at home on March 5, 2016 She was born September 22, 1934 in Robbinsdale, MN and graduated from Robbinsdale High in 1952. Joan received her B.A. with a major in French and a minor in German in 1956 from the University of Minnesota. She continued at the U of M with an M.A. in French including a year abroad at the University of Dijon in France. She was a champion fencer, a lifelong reader, a beloved teacher, and a respected mentor. She taught at Minnetonka High School and Breck School, and co-founded and taught at Mounds Park Academy. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Blanche (Paisley) Messmer. Joan is survived by her husband, Aribert Munzner; daughters, Naomi Munzner (Sheila Oehrlein) of Minneapolis and Tamara Munzner of Vancouver BC; and sister, Fay Cumber (Gary) of St. Louis Park. A gathering for family, friends, and former students to celebrate her life will be held at the Minnesota Zoo on Sat., March 12 from 6-10 pm.
