Obituary of Carol Elaine Roine
Carol Elaine Roine passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones on April 6, 2016 in Proctor, Minn. She was 88 years old.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and her many dogs she had throughout the years. She was well known for her homemade baked bread and would often be heard scolding dad as he tried to cut a piece before it ever had a chance to cool. Carol and her oldest son Leroy, both had the gift of being able to do the two finger whistle and you could hear her a mile away when she whistled for you. She could dance the Charleston and Two-Step as good as anyone and no one ever looked as graceful as she danced the Waltz with the love of her life. She was loved by many from Eau Claire, the Iron Range and the Duluth-Superior area. She believed in treating people with kindness and she often made us smile with the many quotes she would recite to us about how to treat others. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all", was probably her favorite.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers; her husband Reilo "Slug" Roine; her eldest son Leroy Sather; infant great-grandson Andrew Olson and son-in-law Bruce Erickson.
Carol is survived by her son, Kenneth Motzer; daughters, Sandra (Keith) Altonen, Alane Erickson, Shirley "Bird" Roine, Sharon (Ken) Peterson and daughter-in-law Marsha Sather; 11 grandchildren, Shane (Kim) Olson, Stacy Olson, Sherry Thelen, Kim (Kevin) Reisdorf, Michael Sather, Jason (Beth Porter) Sather, Travis Erickson, Lucas Erickson, Ryan Erickson, Jake Peterson and Jessie Peterson; five great-grandchildren, Tiana, Austin, Wade, Brendan and Jace.
A special thank you to Sharon and Travis for always having patience and treating her with kindness and dignity as you cared for her when she could no longer care for herself. Also to Duane Nyman, her neighbor, for always being there...not only to keep the driveway and paths cleared, but for checking on her, sharing a cup of coffee and conversation to brighten her day.
We would also like to thank Dr. Broadmore and nurse Penny, the St. Luke's Hospice program and especially her nurse Margy for the wonderful care and support they showed our mother.
We will miss your stories, your laughter, your love Mom...but we will treasure the memories you gave us most of all. You are no longer in pain, so put on your dancing shoes and let your spirit dance free.
As per Carol's request, there will be no service. Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
