Obituary of Catherine Barbara Maas
Catherine Barbara Maas (nee. Petsch) born August 23, 1938 peacefully passed away on December 10th 2024 at her home.
She is survived by her husband John Mathias Maas; Daughter Mary Christine (Spouse: Andy) Rice; Son Gerald Gregory (Spouse: Melissa) Maas; and Son Timothy David (Spouse: Heather) Maas along with several Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
She was born to Austrian immigrants and grew up in the towns of Le Roy and Albert Lea Minnesota with her older siblings Caroline, John, Rose, and Margaret. At a young age she worked in the family store where she learned and developed some of her entrepreneurial skills. She graduated from Pacelli Catholic High School in Austin, Minnesota and four years later received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Benedict in Saint Joseph, Minnesota. Cathy taught third graders at a Parochial school following her graduation. Cathy and John were married in November of 1960 after meeng at a Saint John’s University/College of Saint Benedict/Saint Cloud State University mixer. While she raised three above average children she worked at a Madison, Wisconsin preschool and also taught in the Roseville area schools. Then she decided to ply her skills in the printing industry, where she worked for WEST Publishing. She learned the business so well that she branched out on her own and started a small printing and copying business in the North Saint Paul and Maplewood area. As part of her business acumen, she joined the North Saint Paul Rotary Club as one of its first female members. She sold the copying business to become a world traveler and enjoy her retirement with her husband. Later in life she was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
The Maas Family will have a celebrtiaon of life for Cathy at Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Saint Paul 2357 Bayless Place, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55114, on December 21, 2024 with the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM and the funeral beginning at 11:00 AM. She will be interred at Roselawn Cemetery in Roseville.
