Obituary of Louis Joseph Bartscher

Louis J. Bartscher, December 8, 2024, at home surrounded by his wife and family.

Louie was the fourth child and only beloved son born to Louis and Genevieve Bartscher on October 9, 1940. A lifelong Saint Paul native, he grew up on Nina Street in the shadow of the Cathedral of Saint Paul where he served as an altar boy and attended Cathedral grade school. Louie attended Cretin Highschool where he made many lifelong friends. He graduated with his JD from William Mitchell College of Law. Louie married his first wife Mary Alberg. After her untimely death, he married Pat Bartscher. After Pat passed, he met and married the light of his life, Molly O’Brien. Molly and Louie were married for thirty years enjoying many happy years wintering in Texas, traveling, and visiting friends and family here and abroad. In his last days, it brought him great comfort to know “his Molly” was nearby.

Louie is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Genevieve Bartscher, sisters, MaryGen and Catherine Bartscher. Wives, Mary A. Alberg Bartscher, Patricia Wicka Bartscher, and infant son, Louis Bartscher. He is survived by his beloved wife Molly O’Brien Bartscher, daughters, Joy D. Bartscher, Susan (Sam) Sanchez, Mary (Mark) Geller, Ana Arguello, and Azeb (Felasfa) Wodajo, stepson Charles A. Brost (Jessica), his beloved son Karl R. Bartscher and sister Lois Shanahan, fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Louie had a great love for his many friends and made no secret of giving thanks for a wonderfully happy life.

His life will be celebrated at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 1979 Old Hudson Road, St. Paul on Monday, December 16th. Visitation is from 1:00-3:00 PM with a short service at 3 pm, followed by a light reception.

In place of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cretin Derham Highschool Alumni Association or The Saint Paul Monastery.
