Obituary of Darrel Dean Kensrud

Darrel Dean Kensrud, age 81, of Bloomington, MN, passed away November 15, 2024, in a hospice care facility in Edina, MN from complications from COPD.

Darrel Kensrud graduated from Minot High School in 1963, and from the ND State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electrical Technology. He worked as an electrician on projects such as the Denver Airport, The Great Plains Synfuels Plant near, Beulah, ND, and the Mall of America. While working in Clinton, Iowa, he met and married Karen “Pete” Scharff and enjoyed life together for over 50 years. They have lived in Bloomington, MN for 30+ years.

Darrel was born October 29, 1943 in Minot, ND. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Olander and Agnes Kensrud. He came to live with Paul, Marie and Skip Ristvedt in the summer of 1955. He developed a love for Model T Fords while helping our father at the farm in Ryder ND. Darrel assembled a 1925 Model T roadster pickup from various parts in his garage in Bloomington MN. Darrel and Pete were avid Nascar fans.

Darrel was preceded in death by their daughter Shelly, his 2 brothers, 2 sisters and parents from his biological family and foster parents Paul and Marie Ristvedt.

He is survived by his wife Karen, grandson Zachary, the Skip Ristvedt family and Karen’s extended family.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2025.
