Obituary of Mark Alan Mueller
Mark Alan Mueller, 61, of Victoria, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home on November 16, 2024, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
Born on May 1, 1963, in Wausau, Wisconsin, Mark was the cherished son of Karen (Boortz) and Paul Mueller. At the age of three, Mark and his parents moved to LeSueur, Minnesota, where he graduated from LeSueur High School in 1981. He continued his education at Mankato State University, earning a degree in Marketing, and built a successful career as an insurance agent/business owner, serving his community with dedication for over 20 years.
Mark’s life was defined by his resilience, strength, and passion for the things he loved most: family, sports, and the outdoors. In the summer of 2017, Mark was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a challenge he faced with unwavering determination. Early in his treatment, he endured significant hurdles, including breaking his back due to vertebral lesions and losing his eyesight in 2018 from chemotherapy-induced nerve damage. Despite these setbacks, Mark’s spirit remained unbroken. He achieved remission in 2018 and embraced five cancer-free years with gratitude and joy.
Mark’s love for life shone brightly in his passions. An avid reader before losing his sight, he remained a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Timberwolves, sharing countless moments cheering for his teams with his son, Zach. He cherished time at the family cabin on Lake Sissabagama, where he found peace and joy fishing with his faithful dog, Jasper, by his side.
Even blindness couldn’t dim Mark’s love of golf. With the help of his friends who lined him up and provided distances, Mark astonished and inspired others with his ability to place the ball beautifully on the course. These rounds of golf with friends brought Mark immense happiness and embodied his refusal to let life’s challenges diminish his passions.
In January 2024, Mark’s cancer returned, and despite starting new treatments, the disease progressed. Through it all, Mark continued to inspire those around him with his courage, optimism, and deep love for his family and friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Karen and Paul Mueller.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Kara Mueller; his beloved son, Zachary Mueller of Victoria, MN; his sister, Lisa Mueller of Waconia, MN; and his in-laws, Charles and Sharon MacArthur of Zumbrota, MN, Dale and Amy MacArthur of Marshall, MN, Jody and Dale Walter of Onalaska, WI, Shelley and Fran Filzen of Rochester, MN, and Stacie and Matt Anderson of Zumbrota, MN. Mark also leaves behind treasured nieces and nephews: Alex (Hannah), Samuel, Adam (Cassie), Aaron (Shanna), Nathaniel, Nicholas, Kayla (Josh), Isabella (Taylor), Gretta, and Neva.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Winchester & Rye in Victoria, MN.
Mark’s legacy of perseverance, love, and joy will forever inspire those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
