Obituary of Larry C. Everett

Larry C. “Mickey” Everett died on April 20, 2016 from being almost 91 years old, Alzheimer’s Disease, arthritic knees and hearing loss. Mickey was born on July 21, 1925 in Ranier, Minnesota where his family lived on Rainy Lake. He moved to Duluth in 1938 and attended Lincoln Park Junior High and graduated from the Salter School after WWII. He and his brothers enlisted in the U.S. military after the Pearl Harbor attack and he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He worked at the Duluth Winnipeg and Pacific Railroad and was the Local Chairman of the United Transportation Union until retiring in 1974. When Mickey was young, he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting and playing baseball, football, bowling and boxing. Later, he watched the Vikings, Twins, and Notre Dame football. Mickey married his wife Betty in 1953. He was preceded in death by his father Harold Sr., mother Ruth, brothers Harold Jr. and Gordon, and sister Betty (Jack) Weisen. He is survived by his wife Betty and children Joe, Christy (Dan) Mahoney, Cathy (Larry) Larson, Wendy and Tim Broeffle, and Jeff (Vanessa), granddaughters Jenn (Russell) Carter, Haley (Mark) Holtan, and Darian, and grandson Dalton, and great-granddaughters Lucy and Stella Carter and Roberta and Mathilda Holtan, and several nieces and nephews. The family recognizes the difficulty and importance of the work of nursing home staff and thanks the staff of the Benedictine Health Center and Essentia Hospice for the excellent care provided to Mickey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 25th at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN with a visitation one hour prior. Memorials may be directed to the Benedictine Health Center Adult Day Services Program.
