Obituary of Margaret L. Johnson
Johnson, Margaret L. (nee Mondry)
Our beloved Marge passed away on November 2, 2024, at the age of 84. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, Joseph and Violet Mondry; sisters, Mary Ann (Francis) Goschy, and Kathleen (Bill) Roth; brothers, Donald (Carol) and Michael (Gail) Mondry; brother-in-law, Jerome (Barbara) Johnson; nephew, Jeffery Mondry; and nieces, Danielle Sivertson and Helen Johnson. She is survived by sisters, Susan (Daniel) Kelly and Linda Mondry; brothers, James (Ginger), Joseph (Kathryn), and Kenneth (Carol) Mondry; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marge grew up in St. Paul's North End, the 4th of 10 children. She graduated from Washington High School. Soon after graduation, she married Ed and they moved to Schweinfurt, Germany, where he was stationed in the army; returning to St. Paul after discharge.
In 1968, Marge and Ed purchased land on Eagle's Nest Lake in Ely, Minnesota and began to clear the land and build their lake home. Family and friends have fond memories of being put to work during this decades long project, initially pitching tents and camping at the boat landing, later, parking campers on the cleared land, and finally being able to stay under a roof and with the new convenience of toilets and running water. Besides working, family and friends have many memories of boating, fishing, swimming, bear encounters, cross country skiing, and long evenings playing cards. This lake home eventually became Marge and Ed's year round home, and then their summer retirement home. They wintered at their Vista Hermosa condominium in Florence, Arizona where they were very active in their retirement community. Marge loved to take walks in the desert, play games at the clubhouse, and participate in all social activities.
Marge was known for her quick wit and fun-loving personality. She loved to play bingo, make puzzles, read, gamble at the casino, travel, and be outdoors in the sunshine. She was an avid collector of all things that she found beautiful: antiques, glass, figurines, art, stoneware, native artifacts, western cowboy memorbilia, ...........
Marge loved her dogs (all labradors) and her cats. She loved her husband, her family and her many friends.
Marge's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Oak Meadows Senior Living for their compassionate care, over the last several years, as Marge made her journey through Alzheimer's Disease.
