I worked with Darlene for many years at Hutchinson Health and can sincerely say that I’ve never worked with a nurse more knowledgeable, competent and caring. Nursing truly comes from the heart and when you hear that she wanted to be a nurse from five years old you knew her path in life was just where it took her. When things were in crisis mode and Darlene was by your side you knew the very best care and decisions were being made. She was an excellent teacher, always willing to help and share. Darlene also was one of the nurses that took care of my critically ill five week old grandson. Her calm presence was reassuring to my daughter as she stayed in ICU with her son and was frightened and overwhelmed with the strangeness of the hospital setting.
I always admired her zest for physical activity.
She was certainly an inspiration.
Darlene, you are missed, admired and respected. The many who worked with you found it a privilege.
Blessed be your memory.

Darlene was a dear friend and such a quality nurse. If there was a Top 10 list for best all time nurses at Hutchinson Hospital, she would surely be at or near the top of the list. Not only was she compassionate and caring, her skill level and love of nursing was off the charts. She never let anything rattle her, and she would patiently teach younger, more inexperienced nurses what she had learned. She was a stabilizing force, and a great resource for the whole nursing staff. Everyone just felt more secure knowing Darlene was at work that shift. When slow shifts allowed, we would have great conversations off the topic of nursing, and she showed a genuine curiosity about everyone and everything, from family to religion. I look forward to reuniting with people like Darlene someday, when she can ask those hard questions and get really good answers from her Creator. Rest in peace for now, Darlene, there's a universe to explore when Jesus calls your name to rise again. Tim Vigil, Hutchinson
