Dorothy (Dot/Dotty) was born on November 11, 1930 at home in Alberta, MN, the youngest of 4 born to Bob and Bessie Treischel.
She lived in Alberta until 1948 when she went to nurses training at Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She graduated in 1951 and started working at the local veterans hospital.
Dorothy married Dick Wade at Messiah Lutheran Church in Minneapolis on March 11, 1952. After which, she joined Dick at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD where he had recently been commissioned a 2nd Lt in the US Army. They moved in 1953 to Seattle when Dick was transferred to Port of Embarkation. In 1953, they returned to Minnesota when Dick was discharged at the rank of 1st Lt and raised Rhonda, Debora, Cheryl and Brett in Brooklyn Center.
Dorothy was a longtime kindergarten aid at Earle Brown Elementary and was remembered for years when she would encounter her then much older students.
Many years after Dick’s passing, Dorothy found love again with Paul Schermeister. They were married on April 19, 2002 at the “little church on the hill” (St Joseph Catholic Church) in Plymouth that Dorothy and Dick had admired for years on trips back home to western MN. The Schermeister family welcomed her with open arms and continued to provide loving support to Dorothy after Paul’s passing.
Dorothy lived independently in her home in Brooklyn Center until 2022, taking pride in her garden and yard. She enjoyed playing cards (whist and 500) with the various clubs – one going back to her nurses training days.
Her Little Jessie cabin brought her joy from when she and Dick bought the empty lot in 1971. The initial bunkhouse and outhouse still stand. In 1976 they completed the cabin she visited throughout her remaining days and enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Wade and Paul Schermeister. She is survived by her children Rhonda (Greg) Polanski, Debora (Richard) Ackley, Cheryl (Jim) Snede, Brett Wade; her grandchildren Dan (Allison), David (Rachael), Cara (Nick), Doug, Cole (Laura); and her great grandchildren Stella, Millie, Jason, Piper, Jackson, Nate, Linnea. She was loved by the Schermeister family: Paul & Nancy Schermeister, Rita & Rick Topka, Mark & Janet Schermeister, along with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
