Obituary of Stephen Michael Bangasser
Stephen Michael Bangasser passed away October 20th 2024 peacefully at home in Red Wing Minnesota. He was born on December 20th 1956 in Sioux Falls South Dakota. He was the loving son of Eugene & Marilyn (Miller) Bangasser.
Steve graduated from Brandon Valley High School in Brandon Valley South Dakota in May of 1975. Shortly after high school he moved to the Red Wing area and began his career at Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant. He began as an armed security officer on his 21st birthday in December of 1977. After many years on shift, he transitioned to an educator role with Xcel Energy as their tactical firearms instructor. He trained new hires and kept officers up to date on their certifications and required training. The plant wasn’t just a place of employment for Steve, but was also where he met the love of his life, Lynne Bangasser (Majerus). They wed on July 9th, 1983 in Red Wing Minnesota. They had two children: Ryan and Erin.
When Steve wasn’t working, he spent his time fishing on the Mississippi river in his boat the ‘Rogue Wave’, being creative in his wood shop in the basement of the home he built nearly 40 years ago, and trying out recipes from his favorite shows ‘Cooks Country’ and ‘Planet Barbeque’. When it was frigid and snowy in Minnesota, he and his wife Lynne would escape to Florida for the warm sun and beaches. Steve enjoyed his visits from his closest friends, mother and siblings, as well as his grandchildren during his final months.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Edward and Mary Bangasser; maternal grandparents Valentine and Myrtle Miller; and his father Eugene Bangasser.
Steve is survived by his mother Marilyn Bangasser; his loving wife Lynne; his son Ryan (Michelle) Bangasser; his daughter Erin (Peter) Ignatowicz; his seven siblings Deborah (Dave), Hansen, Barb (Joe) Borrell, Patrick (Tammy) Bangasser, Julie (Bill) Steier, David (Karen) Bangasser, Jim (Marie) Bangasser and Kelly (Kris) Bangasser; and his 6 grandchildren Zachary (15), Nicholas (14), Matthew (9), Violet(8), Leo (3), and the youngest Sadie (2 months) whom he had the joy of naming.
A funeral mass will be held at St.Joseph's Catholic Church in Red WIng Minnesota on November 22nd, 2024 at 2pm. Visitation and celebration of life to follow at The Elks Club.
The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice for their love and dedication to Steve in his final days. In hopes of supporting other families in their hospice needs we ask that donations be made to St. Croix Hospice in Steve’s memory.
