Obituary of Susan Jean Anderson

Susan Jean Anderson, 71, of Virginia, passed away on October 22, 2024, after a brief illness at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

Susan was born on September 15, 1953, in Duluth, MN to parents Clifford and Virginia Fortman. She was raised in Iron and graduated from Eveleth High School in 1971. Susan was a proud mother of seven children whom she stayed at home to raise.  Following raising her children, Susan made a career out of investing in rental properties and retired in 2023. She spent much of her free time bowling with friends, playing card games, antiquing, and showing her artistic side through crafting.  Susan had a big heart for animals, especially her dogs.  Those who knew Susan knew the incredible strength she held within and carried through her time here on Earth.

Susan is survived by her children, Kyle (Ann) Anderson of Duluth, Kelly (Rob) Olson of Albertville, Stephanie (Dusty) Hannahs of Mt. Iron, Ashley (Nick) Kittelson of International Falls. Grandchildren, Jack and Emma Anderson, Crystal and Brennen Anderson, Tyler, Ella, Gavin, Madelyn, and Cole Olson, Dusty Jr., Westly, and Castin Hannahs, Lillian and Jacob Bannert, and Derek Kittelson; Sister, Ginny Hatton of Florida; Nieces, Renae LaFont and Brandi Villalobos; Nephews, Jason Hatton and Seth Hatton.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Joel (2006), Darrick (2009), and Brett (2022); parents, Clifford and Virginia Fortman; sister Mitzi Fortman.

To honor Susan’s wishes there will be no funeral service.
