Obituary of Erna (Weidner) Scherping
Erna (Weidner) Scherping, age 88 of Apple Valley MN passed away on October 10, 2024 surrounded by family and her caretakers at Ecumen Apple Valley. She was born to Herman and Marcella Weidner and grew up in Freeport MN.
She married Clarence Scherping April 7, 1956, and they were married for 63 years. Erna was a busy wife and mother raising a family in Red Lake MN and Foley MN early on in their marriage. They than moved the family to San Diego CA while Clarance went to graduate school and eventually settled in Aurora IL. In Aurora Erna was active in the children’s school and church while the children were young and then worked in the billing department for a trucking company. After retirement, Erna and Clarence returned to MN and settled in Apple Valley where they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
After Clarences passing Erna enjoyed her retirement community and especially liked coffee with friends.
Erna was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, son, Michael, great granddaughter Mila. Also, her parents and numerous brothers and sisters.
She is survived by Roger (Mary), Nancy (Greg), Gary (Katie), Dennis (Thelma), Ann (Brad), Dave (Carlann) and Rick (Pam) 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Erna remained close to her large group of siblings enjoying numerous events that brought them all together several times a year.
She will be known for being a woman of few words, but always saying what she meant.
Visitation will be held October 29, 2024 starting with Visitation at 10:00, followed by Catholic Mass at 11:00 at Church of the Risen Savior – 1501 County Rd 42 E, Burnsville MN 55306 with Interment at Resurrection Cemetery at 2:00 -2101 Lexington Ave S Mendota Heights MN 55120.
