Floyd Lovelette, a man of gentle and humble demeanor, departed this life on October 7, 2024 while being cared for by the Good Samaritan Society in Waconia, Minnesota. His long life was marked by hard work and fierce loyalty to his wife of 64 years, Alice (nee Hauge) and to his children.
Born in La Plant, SD, part of the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, Floyd made his way to Lemmon, SD, where he completed high school and met Alice. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, being honorably discharged during a bout with tuberculosis. He returned to Lemmon to be married, and he and Alice started their family in the Minneapolis area. He supported his family of four children with a lifelong career as an owner-operator in the trucking industry. Following retirement from trucking, he enjoyed working part-time in the newly opened Safari Island Community Center in Waconia, and many years of membership office work at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, where he was honored as Volunteer of the Year.
Floyd enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing 500, taking old-fashioned Sunday drives, and eating Alice’s suppers and pies. He was a decades-long member of Faith Lutheran Church in Waconia, where he served on various committees. Floyd enjoyed being involved with friends during his dwelling at Westview Acres in Waconia, including welcoming new residents with the “Angel” program.
Floyd is survived by his son Wade (Cindy) Lovelette, daughter Jackie (Scott) Colesworthy, and son John (Doreen) Lovelette, brother James (Joy) Reinken, special nieces Holly and Jennifer Jones and many grand/greatgrandchildren.
