Obituary of Rose Marie Lien

Rose Marie Lien,  age 97, of Eden Prairie, MN died on October 7, 2024 at Methodist Hospital with loving daughter Cindy at her side. She was born in Lidgerwood, ND on April 20, 1927. Rose Marie grew up on the Tisdel farm outside of Wyndmere, ND. Her mother Margaret died shortly after Rose Marie's birth and her father Henry died when she was 4. She lived on the family farm with step-parents Ida (Selland-Tisdel-Pelvit) and Ethan Pelvit. She enjoyed life on the farm and shared many happy times with caring step-parents and younger half-sister Alice Gene (Tisdel) Peterson. After attending a small country school in Wyndmere, ND Rose Marie graduated from New York Hair Styling Academy in Fargo, ND. She married Calvin Lien of Wyndmere, ND in 1948 and started her business shortly after. She owned and operated Rose Marie's Beauty Shop in Wyndmere for about 40 years. She and Cal retired in 1987 and moved to Fargo, ND where they lived and enjoyed early years of retirement which involved active membership in First Lutheran Church, attending auction sales, music performances, and art events, and taking scenic car trips throughout Minnesota and North Dakota. They visited daughter Cindy wherever she was living. They enjoyed trips to Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida while Cindy and husband Steve lived in Atlanta, GA. Rose Marie was an expert gardener and had a beautiful garden which continued to evolve. She had so many creative interests and was constantly very busy. Sleep was very low priority as she had things to do! She made many unique dolls all dressed to the nines, she decorated for every holiday and was always creating new decor for that. She took Maxx, their Bichon Frise on many walks in their neighborhood.

In 2003, Rose Marie and Cal and Maxx moved to Eden Prairie, MN to live at Summit Place so they could be near daughter Cindy and her husband Steve. Rose Marie was thrilled to be living in "The Twin Cities". Rose Marie and Cal were both in good health when they moved to independent senior living and soon had many new friends. Their apartment was a fun place to go with lots of socializing. After Cal died in 2015, Rose Marie moved to assisted living at Summit Place. Her apartment was decked out for every holiday especially Christmas which was her favorite. She was still decorating for fall even days before her hospital admission which resulted in her death. Rose Marie was a very active person her entire life even up until her last couple of months. Friends and family have memories of Rose Marie up on a ladder busy with decorating. Once she turned age 90 her daughter took her ladder away and that is one of the few things Rose Marie complained about. She was an independent soul and did not like to ask for help. Two weeks before her death she was insisting she could lift her walker out of the car. She did not need any help, thank you very much. Rose Marie continued to be creative, active, and fit at the end of her life. It is truly amazing. She did not look her age, and she never wanted to slow down and take it easy. She faced so many challenges in her life but one would never know that. She would find a way to rise above the challenge, accept things and move on. She had a very memorable smile and laugh, and bright sparkly eyes. She could find solutions to almost anything and would find a way to make things better.

Rose Marie was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Margaret (Blake) Tisdel, step-parents Ethan and Ida (Selland-Tisdel) Pelvit, siblings George Tisdel, Alta (Tisdel) Kadechka, Elaine (Tisdel) Jensen, Blake Tisdel, Kathleen Tisdel, husband, Calvin Lien, son-in-law Steve Hartmann, and Marvin Hartmann (Steve's father). She is survived by daughter Lucinda (Cindy) Hartmann of Eden Prairie, MN, half-sister Alice Gene (Tisdel) Peterson of Fergus Falls, MN, step-sister Pat (Pelvit) Bahr of Wahpeton, ND, very close friend and family Marion Hartmann (Steve's mother) of Eagan, MN, Dawn Struble (close family friend) of Burnsville, MN, dear cousin-in-law Mary Olive Lien of Centennial, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Summit Place/SilverCare, and the compassionate care provided by Methodist Hospital 5 East after her unfortunate life ending stroke on October 1, 2024. She had a very peaceful end of life experience and could communicate with Cindy until her very last day. She will be missed by all. No one expected this. It was a shocking and very sudden loss.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. If a memorial is desired please donate to a charity of your choice.
