Obituary of Robert Tyler Martin
Robert “Bob” Tyler Martin of Duluth, MN passed away on August 29, 2024 at the age of 95.
Bob was born in Taft, Texas on July 18, 1929 to Clyde and Lena Martin. He joined the Navy in 1946 and traveled the world for the next 20 years. He spent time in Italy and Japan taking pictures of all the places he visited. He was very proud of his time spent in the Navy and enjoyed talking about it to all who would listen to his tales of adventure.
While stationed in San Diego, CA, Bob met Gloria Ojard. Bob and Gloria married in July 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were married for 49 years, until her death in 2006. When Bob retired from the Navy in 1966, Gloria and he moved to Duluth, MN. Bob was employed as an appliance salesmen at the Sears store in downtown Duluth until its closure in 1983.
Bob enjoyed fishing and tending to his flowers. In addition, he was an avid UMD hockey fan. He often talked about traveling to watch the Bulldogs play in the championship game against Bowling Green in Lake Placid, NY.
After his wife passed away, Bob was introduced to Doreen Bistis. They spent the next 17 years traveling to casinos in Minnesota and dining out at local restaurants.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lena Martin, his wife, Gloria Martin, and his brother David Martin.
Bob is survived by his long-time partner, Doreen, Nieces Elizabeth Ann Crowley, Brenda Sue Svach, and Connie Martin Bowman and Nephew Dale Andrew Martin, all from Texas and many nephews and nieces from Minnesota.
In honor of Bob’s request, there will be no service held. We wish to thank the staff of St. Croix hospice and the staff at the Duluth Heights Lodge Assisted Living facility for his care.
