Obituary of Russell Herbert Holland
Russell Holland (82) left this world into God’s arms on July 24, 2024. Russ was predeceased by his wife Joan in 2023, his mother Mary in 2019 and his father Russell in 2011. He is survived by four sons, two daughters in law, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Russ had an adventurous spirit and many interests and worked in several industries including computer coding, data analysis, chemical engineering and the food industry.
Russ has a love and appreciation for music. He taught himself how to play many musical instruments such as the piano, saxophone, guitar, ukulele, banjo and many others. Russ was a founding member of the band called the “Firecrackers” in southern California the late 1950s. He also loved to sing as was in the St. Therese (Deephaven) church choir and the Minnetonka Clippers (barbershop quartet) spanning many years.
Russ played a very active role in the YMCA Indian Guides organization in the 1970s and 1980’s with all four of his sons enrolled in the program.
Russ was also a very active member of the Minnetonka Gem and Mineral club. Being in this organization for many decades, Russ cultivated life-long friendships with many members of the club. He had his own related business called “Holly Rock Shop.” He also started another unrelated business called “H&L Associates” in the 1980’s.
Russ was a volunteer with the Minnetonka police department and also served as an election judge in many elections over the past 40 years.
Funeral services will be held at St. Therese in Deephaven, MN on the 22nd of August (Visitation at 10:00AM) and funeral at 11:00AM. Interment will be on August 24th at St. Mary’s Church in Willow River, Minnesota at 1:00 PM
