Obituary of Dale Bernhardt Johnson
Dale Bernhardt Johnson passed away on August 10, 2024. He was born December 27, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Guy Bernhardt Johnson and Amanda Marie Johnson. He was the youngest of four kids and a brother to Shirley, Betty and Carol. Dale graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1950. He then attended Dunwoody College for a short while to learn about electronics. In 1951 he enlisted in the Navy and for six years he served aboard the USS Cocopa in Hawaii, Korea and Japan. He was proud to have served his country during the Korean War and has always displayed reminders of his service. Dale returned home to Minneapolis in 1957 and started his career in the field of hearing aid technology. Over the next 46 years he worked for Qualitone, Starkey Labs, Seeburg Corporation and with a partner, owned and operated Precision Hearing. Dale was a lover of pets. He always had pet dogs and cats. He adopted and cared for the injured and abandoned. He loved them dearly as they loved him too. Like so many Minnesotans, he loved fishing and the Vikings. He was a puzzler. He was always working on jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and cryptograms. He has been preceded in death by his wife and companion Gayle Johnson, his oldest son, David, his first wife Hatsuyo (Rumiko); sisters Betty, Carol and Shirley. He leaves behind sons Daryl, Danny and Brett, his daughter-in-law Phuong-Anh Le as well as grandchildren Jesse, Shane, Paul, Joshua, Akio and Erisa. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and very special friends John Ernst, Sherry Irgang, and Michelle Green and her son Benjamin Green who called Dale grandpa.
The Celebration of Life Gathering will be on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4343 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55409
A Committal Service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 10:15 AM at Assembly Area #2.
