Obituary of David Michael Halstead

David Halstead, 85, of Duluth, MN, died on November 19th, 2023. David was born in South Amboy, NJ on June 13, 1938. Active Coast Guard service brought David to Duluth in 1962. He loved the Duluth area and made it his home.

David graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in geology in 1961. He later attended UMD and obtained a teaching degree. David taught at Northwoods Children Home and Woodland Hills. In 1965, David was released from active duty and joined the Coast Guard Reserves. He served until 1983 when he retired with the rank of Commander.

David adored his wife Joan, who shared his love of camping, canoeing, fishing and playing cribbage. He also enjoyed fixing things at home.

David is survived by his children Tracy Rowe (David), Jeff Halstead (Carol), David Halstead (Patricia) and Del Erickson. His daughter Stephanie Fehringer (Bruce) passed away in January, 2024.

David was preceded in death by his wife Joan.

A memorial service for David will be at Holy Cross Church in Duluth on Thursday, August 8th at 11 am. (Address 410 N Arlington, Ave.) Visitation is at 10:30 am with a luncheon in the church hall following the ceremony.
