Obituary of James Marvin Palm
James (Jim) Marvin Palm, age 85, of Le Center, MN passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024 at home.
Jim is survived by his wife Patty Newman-Palm, sister Jeanette Jacobs, sons Michael Palm (Brittany), Peder Palm, Charles Palm, Brent Newman (Michelle), Justin Newman (Allison), Kristopher Newman (Kelly), daughters Jessica Rivers (Michael) and Lindsay Munguia (Jose), 15 grandchildren whom he loved very much: Bailey, Avery, Finley, Sam, Ava, Miles, Henry, Louis, Jericka, Logan, Liliana, AJ, Ariana, Camden and Hattie as well as nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Marvin & Florence Palm of Saint Louis, MO.
Jim was born and raised in Saint Louis, MO, served his country, and moved to Minnesota to be an educator at the University of Minnesota Mankato. Shortly after, he purchased and ran the Little Dandy in Le Center (8 years), the Palm Tree in Le Sueur (8 years) and supported the children of Le Sueur School District & Taher Food Service (17 years) as the Food Service Director. He was delighted to spend his final working years as a bus driver for Le Center & TCU school districts where most kids referred to him as the “coolest bus driver ever”.
Jim was an active member of the Le Center community, an active Le Center Legion Member, and ran the Le Sueur County Fair food booth (13 years). He spent his last few years volunteering as a flower delivery man for Le Center Floral. Most would agree he was a bright light at the grocery store, offering a helping hand to his neighbors, and attending his grandchildren’s events. He loved golfing with his family and cards with his friends.
Jim was a wonderful man and the legacy he leaves behind is one of kindness. His presence will be deeply missed, and we are forever indebted to carry on his memory. If you’re feeling sad, just remember what Jim always said: “100 years from now, you won’t even remember it.”
Jim’s family is extremely appreciative of all the care he received from the first responders of Le Center, Rochester Mayo Hospital, Central Health Care, and St. Croix Hospice.
Jim’s Celebration of Life will be at the Le Center American Legion on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 2-4pm.
