Obituary of Thomas J Mathieu
Thomas J. Mathieu of Blaine, Minnesota, died July 2, 2024, at the age of 73. Tom was the devoted husband of wife, Jane (Kehne), and proud father of daughter, Lisa Warshaw. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Marjorie Mathieu; brother Charles; and sister Linda Schmidt. He is survived by wife, Jane; daughter, Lisa; brother, Rick; grandchildren, Caitlin and Mathieu; and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was born and raised in Edina, Minnesota, and graduated from Edina High School. After serving in the Army Reserves, he worked briefly as a DJ at KSDR radio in South Dakota before studying Rhetoric at the University of Minnesota. Upon graduation, he worked at NCR and IBM where he retired in 2015. He was a devoted husband and loving father who always put his family before himself in everything he did. He took great pride in being a parent and grandparent and was endlessly proud to share each of his daughter’s and grandchildren’s achievements with the world no matter how big or small.
Tom had an endless thirst for learning about the latest technological innovations and loved tinkering with new computer gadgets with his son-in-law, Lane. He thought the world of his daughter and grandchildren and was always encouraging, loving, and kind. He adored the dogs in his life, had a particularly soft spot for pugs, and fawned over every dog he ever met. Above all, he dedicated his life to loving and supporting his wife, Jane, of nearly 53 years. He had an infectious smile that could light up a room, a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh, and was known for his ability to tell witty jokes on a whim. He loved traveling and made it a point to visit all 50 states before the age of 50. He enjoyed his retirement years seeing as much of the world as he could with his wife, Jane.
A celebration of life will be held July 28 at the Centennial Lakes Pavilion in Edina from 2pm-4pm. Please wear a Hawaiian shirt in his honor. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Friends of the Boundary Waters (https://www.friends-bwca.org/donate/).
