Obituary of Stewart George Patrick
Stewart G Patrick, beloved by all who knew him passed away June 20, 2024.
He was born in Ladysmith WI to Alva T and Marguerite (Tate) Patrick in 1931.
They moved to Minneapolis around 1941. Stewart graduated from West High School 1949.
He attended the University of Minnesota and earned his Bachelor of Science in 1954, Masters degree in 1960. He earned his PhD, Doctor of Music Education, in 1972 from University of North Dakota, Grand Forks.
Music was part of Stewarts entire life. He started playing piano in elementary school. Started playing trumpet in 6th grade. He played for 80 years, in bands and orchestras in schools, college, his church and community bands.
He was a band and choir director for 30 years. Teaching countless children to play and love music.
He married Shirley M Brehmer in 1952 and they were married for 19 years, they had 3 children.
Stewarts partner for the past 40 years was Diane Gill. They loved to travel all over the world. And spent much of many summers at Diane’s family lake place. Stewart was the handyman fixing almost anything that needed fixing for multiple cabins for over 25 years.
Stewart earned his Boy Scouts Eagle Scout rank in 1950. His Minneapolis troop first camped at a camp in Minnetonka and then Many Point Scout camp near Detroit Lakes, MN.
He enjoyed assisting with Habitat for Humanity house construction for many years. He sang in a barbershop choir, played tennis, loved to read mysteries and detective stories and listen to big band music, in addition to all his music involvement.
Stewart was preceded in death by his parents Alva and Marguerite Patrick, sister Mary Margaret Heiser, brother-in-law Frank Daughenbaugh, niece Diane Weber and grandson Ben Lee.
He is survived by his children Barbara (Harry) Ross, Deborah Wheeler, Scott (Ann) Patrick, sister-in-law Marilyn Daughenbaugh, grandchildren Ben, Erin, Tiaira, Justin, Michael, Emily and Morgan, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his loving partner Diane Gill.
Our family extends our thanks to Masonic Home for their tender care for Stewart his last 6 months. We are grateful to Grace Hospice for shepherding Stewart and we his family his last several weeks.
A celebration of remembrance will be held Wednesday, July 17 at noon. Visitation will begin an hour prior at 11:00 am at Masonic Home Chapel 11411 Masonic Home Drive, Bloomington, MN.
