James Dennis Kane- After a long and fulfilling life, passed away July 1, 2024 due to respiratory failure.
Jim was born January 4, 1930 in Minneapolis MN to Arthur Lawrence and Delia Kane. He was one of eight children. He graduated from Patrick Henry High in 1948. He then attended St Cloud College. He wrestled there and pursued a degree in American history and education. He served in the Army Military Police as a Corporal and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the US, he met and married Marilyn Milbert. They were happily married for over 45 years and had 5 children. Jim worked for AH Bennett Company for many years until he and his brother Larry formed their own roofing supply company “Kane Brothers”. Jim was passionate about golf. He was a member of North Oaks Country Club for many years. Many a story have been told of playing gin rummy with the guys at North Oaks. His passion followed him to Florida where he was a member of Largo Golf Course as well. Jim loved going up North to the Brainerd Lakes area. Eventually he owned a cabin on Sibley Lake in Pequot Lakes which became his home once he retired. There he cared for Marilyn who was ill for many years. After Marilyn passed, Jim was blessed to have the companionship of Betty Newman, a wonderful women. Together they lived their lives in Maple Grove, MN and Largo, FL. They loved playing cards, Bridge and Gin Rummy. Not to mention an occasional trip to the casino where he usually won playing Blackjack. They had a lot of fun together and made many friends wherever they traveled. Jim was blessed with the gift of gab. He was not however blessed with the gift of listening! Jim loved being the “Master of Ceremonies”. He for sure had a story to tell at every occasion.
