Jim "Jimmy T" Thomas was one of my favorite people I met along the forestry and firefighting path. We worked together on the Angeles National Forest and saw each other occasionally like the time my Incident Managment Team worked for him on a series of fires on the Wasatch Cache and Uinta National Forests when he served as a Forest FMO. Unfortunately, I lost contact with Jimmy many years ago. He and his family were returning home from a trip to Hawaii and came to visit me, only problem was I was out of state, sick in my hotel room. I was unaware of the exact dates of their visit and let them down, something I have always regretted and never really figured out. I did not know about Jim having this disease that took him away from Teresa and I am truly sorry she must proceed now without him. I have always wondered if Teresa and Jim got together after her engine crew (Red Box) and the group of forestry and resource management personnel got in a water fight at Red Box Fire Station one hot summer afternoon. I seem to recall Jimmy and his associates defeated the engine crew as they used their fire engine in the water fight while Jim and his group used the station protection lay that was attached to the 10,000 gallon station water tank. Rest in Peace Jimmy T! You were loved by many and were a favorite on a Ranger District that no longer exists, the Arroyo Seco District on the Angeles NF. That is Jim on the far right in the photo of his work group.

Jim (JT) was my first Forest Service supervisor and mentor while at the Medford Ranger District. Thanks to Jim’s guidance and support, I served on the Redding Interagency Hotshot Crew, worked on the Angeles National Forest in his former position and recently retired after a 34 year career thanks in part to Jim. I have many fond memories of Jim and especially think of him whenever I open a can of soup :-) My condolences to Teresa and all of Jim’s family.

To Teresa and family, my deepest condolences. I was Jim's neighbor at the Arroyo Seco residences back in the mid-80s. Only four families lived there. I've never known a nicer person. Godspeed on your new, heavenly journey Jim. Rest in peace.

Thanks for all the great times Jimmy T. From putting out bottle rocket fires on the banks of the Red Cedar, to hiring Guerraro as our 3rd base coach and the marriage proposal at UW Madison Camp Randall Stadium was a classic. May the fish always bite and the sun always shine on your face, RIP.
