Obituary of Greg Haynes
Greg Haynes, 71, of Hermantown died unexpectedly on June 5th riding the motorcycle he loved.
Greg was in every way gregarious. Greg retired from the DM&IR Railroad. He was a 20 year veteran of the Hermantown Volunteer Fire Department, Ham radio operator, Chaplain of the Euclid Masonic Lodge in Duluth, active member of the AAD Shrine, and was President of NARVRE Unit 92, Duluth/Superior. Greg was the last original volunteer for Grandma’s marathon. The very first race, Greg drove the family station wagon at the back of the race as the first official ambulance. In his younger years Greg was an Eagle Scout, swimmer and martial artist in Taekwondo, Wing Chun Kung Fu, & Uechi Ryu. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, his pets, playing cribbage and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and ski.
Greg is survived by his son, Jeremiah Haynes, and his daughters, Meghann (Eli) Anderson, and Tara Haynes (Tom Crotty). He has also left behind 6 beautiful grandchildren Asher, Destani, Owen, Ezra, Franklin, and Harrison.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday June 14th at The Duluth Masonic Center, 4 West 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55802. Visitation at 10:30 A.M, service at 11 A.M with lunch to follow. Please join us to celebrate the life of our dad.
